Maybe I’d Like To Be A Princess

If you know anything about me, you know that I am and always have been pretty darn girly. Starting with the phase as a child that kept me clothed in my favorite flowered skirt and rubber boots (okay, so the boots were a bit of a departure…), it’s always been quite evident. These characteristics led me to seriously consider as a child that there was a legitimate possibility that I had been adopted from birth; moreover, that I was actually a princess from a faraway land that had somehow ended up in the booming metropolis of Iota. Clearly, I had quite the imagination.

So it’s no wonder when Princess Diana died three weeks before my thirteenth birthday, and every channel was flooded with news of her life, that I thought it was most assuredly my fate (having faced the loss of a parent myself) to marry Prince William. Seems logical, right? Riiiight…

Years later, I am still intrigued by the royal family. And I know they get a bad rap sometimes, but I sincerely think they are pretty good people. And if I were going to lose out on marrying Prince William, I would say that Kate is a pretty good person to fall behind—the epitome of a classy lady. Although I am still sort of mourning the fact that I wasn’t invited to Will and Kate’s wedding or asked to be the godmother of their sweet George. I digress…

Recently, I read an article about Kate. This part particularly stuck out to me… “How tough it must have been for the Duchess to have to walk out in front of the entire world—in heels no less!—just a day after giving birth. Kate Middleton is—and I mean this with every bit of my being—one of my heroes. She’s the princess who makes me comfortable with my daughter idolizing princesses.”

I’m not saying those royals are perfect in every way. But here’s the reality. When the vast majority of the role models that the media places for our little ones to look up to are severely lacking in decent moral judgment, Will and Kate are simply a breath of fresh air. They are kind. They are humble. They are charitable. And no matter your opinion on the monarchy, you have to admit, they just don’t seem so bad…

So here’s to you Kate—For making us want to be princesses again…
