The Rainbow After The Rain

The Rainbow After The Rain

Whenever anyone says rainbow, you can be sure that a whole list of cliché statements might come to mind. Generally speaking, rainbows are a symbol of hope and promise. If you have a biblical mind, the first thing that you might think of is the fact that God gave Noah a rainbow as a promise that He would never flood the earth again.

Sometimes, rainbows are easily visible. They stretch through the whole sky with bright, vibrant colors that seem to just pop out of the rain clouds in the most beautiful way you can imagine. Other times, they are patchy and barely there. We look and say, “Wait, is that…? I think, it might be… Oh look, it’s a rainbow!”

And isn’t that a whole lot like life? There are times when God’s promises shine bright in our lives. There is no denying that they are there, and visible, and our hope and faith are stronger than ever.

And then there are times when we have to look a little harder, a little longer. It just doesn’t seem as easy to see God’s hand at work, His promises in effect. Does that change the fact that He is present? Not at all.

Driving along yesterday, I saw a rainbow. It wasn’t very bright. I had to squint and think, “Wait, is that…? I think it might be…” But the rainbow was there. I may have had a hard time seeing it, but it was there.

Sometimes the rain is a lot more evident than the rainbow. Hold on. Squint. Look harder. The rainbow is there. God is there. And while your ability to see Him may waver, His promises will never change…
