It’s Harvest Time
This year, more than ever it seems, I have noticed the rice fields and how beautiful they are when it is time to harvest. I have grown up here all of my life, but I found myself nearly moved to tears several times as I watched golden rice swaying under the hot summer breeze.
I thought of the farmers. I worked with a girl once whose husband was a farmer. I teach many kids who will become another generation of farmers for their family. Through both of these experiences, I feel like I have gained a new appreciation for and insight into farming.
It is not easy work. That much I have learned for sure.
Many times, our lives take on a similar cycle. Planting a seed, cultivating a crop, toiling for long months to make sure that nothing creeps into our field to destroy the harvest we are working towards. But with all the work, all the time spent on the preparations, there also comes a time for harvest.
You are closer than you think. If you have planted a seed… If you have been working endlessly to try to salvage a crop you sometimes feel will never come to fruition… If you have tugged at endless weeds threatening to strangle the very lifeblood that you are waiting to see… You, friend, are closer than you think.
Look at the fields. They are beautiful, golden, and waiting. Now is your time. For all of the labor you have sown, your time is coming. It is harvest time…
